Nowhere To Hide
Some creatures are born to blend into their surroundings. Others have no such advantage.
Years ago, while photographing along the Guadalupe River in Texas, I came across a white duck resting in the grasses beside the water. Surrounded by the deep greens of the riverbank and the shadows of the cypress trees, the duck seemed entirely at ease, despite being the most conspicuous thing in the landscape.
That contrast stayed with me.
Nowhere To Hide grew from that photograph, capturing a small, slightly whimsical moment in nature. The white feathers stand out against the richly textured grasses, while the moving water and cypress trees provide a familiar Texas setting.
There’s something appealing about a creature that seems perfectly content to be so visible.
