In Partnership with the Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas
We’re honored to collaborate with the Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas — the only nonprofit in South Texas offering grief-support counseling, peer groups, and camps for grieving children and families. Founded in 1997, CBCST serves 3,000 clients every year across South Texas. Our mission is to foster healing for grieving children, youth, their families and our community, and our vision is that every child experiencing death loss will have access to the grief support services they need– because no child should have to walk the heartbreaking journey of grief alone.
CBCST will manage the auction and all fundraising efforts for Survivor, ensuring that 100% of net proceeds directly support grief services in flood-affected communities across South Texas. Their expertise and compassion make them the ideal partner for this project.
The Story Behind Survivor
Five days before the flood hit, I hiked the Guadalupe River.
The water was high from recent rains, but the trail was peaceful. I took photos of the trees, the textures, the light — not with a painting in mind, just out of habit. It was one of those walks that stays with you.
Then the flood came.
Just days after I’d been standing in that stillness, entire communities along the river were devastated. Lives were lost. Families displaced. That same landscape I’d just walked through was gutted.
Survivor was born from that moment. From the contrast between what I saw on that hike and what I saw in the aftermath.
This painting is a response — a way to process, to honor, and to help.
